Rumaging around in my reel archive I've located a few items worth posting. At about 1:05 there is a portion of a TM demo that a lot of collectors haven't heard followed by the talk-over bed used in the demo. Enjoy.

So what are your jingle holy grails?

It's been just over six years since I last promoted the "Most Wanted" page of my web site, so thought I'd give it another mention here.

I've recently been listening through many of the off-air jingle cassettes I recorded when I was a kid, and discovered several items I had forgotten about, which I've now added with samples to my "most wanted" page. Notably, there's some new audio from Minster FM, Viking FM and the Euro Chart Hot 100; a syndicated radio show hosted by Pat Sharp in the late 80's.

As ever, if you can help me with any of the stuff I'm looking for, or indeed shed any light on some of the stuff I'm a little vague on, I will be very grateful. :-)

Just a word of thanks and much appreciation to BossJock and Chalks for yet again managing to recover and digitize even more "archive copies" of many of my station-recorded tapes from my " first wave" of jingle collecting from the very late 1960s and early 1970s.

Like those of us from "back then", the audio is perhaps a little "thinner on top" in places, but fascinating to hear full versions of things that today are no longer extant even e.g. in the excellent facilities of TC's MPF - when jingle companies bin/dumpster their resing archives, only those "old tapes Collectors have got in the attic somewhere" can make classic jingle audio "live again".:)

(Who was asking the other day about a "Woody Woodpecker" old jingle package...?)

One of the delights of being a part of www.solidgoldgem.am is that I get to work on new jingles very often rather than once a year as I did 25 years ago. Also as we play music from as far back as the 1940s, and up to the mid-1980s we can 'cherry pick' a wide style of cuts.

For the original GEM-AM I used jingles from PAMS, JAM and we did custom cuts with Alfasound. The lead female singer on these was always Jackie Dickson, THE 'voice of PAMS' (as far as I'm concerned) who was also on many of JAM's earlier packages. What was ironic was that when I went to Dallas to the vocal sessions I always stayed with Jackie and Tom, but never bought any jingles from his company.... (and before I was able to buy their material Jackie was the first person to take me into JAM for a 'look and see' visit!) Tom never pushed a demo tape my way, and even though I had some reel-to-reels of Tom's TM material that I loved and knew every word of, I focussed on one style for GEM-AM.

Now in 2013 (despite rather smaller budgets!) I'm in the position of having the luxury of time to check out endless old packages, and lyric ideas. And via Joe Myers I discovered the WMAQ 'Chicago Song' and you'll have heard my version (all 1.38 of it) on here.

Well, I found myself singing another old cut..... that turned out to be from.... no, hang on.. let's make it a guessing game! Whether you are a Jinglemadder of 63 or 23 I suspect few can name the package THIS is from? (that does not include Sean and TC!) You'll gather from the style and synth-led orchestration it's old.. but what else do you know? I'm pretty certain it's not been re-sung for anyone for at least 20+ years.. plus there's more.. but I'll save that..

If you don't know who he was he has two chapters in Landeckers book..worth reading and it's on Kindle.
Radio has lost a true legend. Top 40 radio pioneer PAUL DREW died of natural causes at VICTOR ROYALE ASSISTED LIVING in GLENDALE, CA; he was 78.
DREW launched his radio career in ATLANTA, as a DJ at WAKE, WGST and WQXI -- the latter station promoted him to PD. He also held PD gigs at CKLW/WINDSOR-DETROIT, WIBG/PHILADELPHIA, KFRC/SAN FRANCISCO and KHJ/LOS ANGELES. After programming KHJ, DREW was promoted to VP/Programming for RKO Radio, overseeing the stations in NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, BOSTON, SAN FRANCISCO, WASHINGTON, MEMPHIS and FORT LAUDERDALE.
He was also a partner in the radio consulting firm DREW-ATKINSON ASSOCIATES, and was appointed Director of the USIA's RADIO MARTI PROJECT by President RONALD REAGAN.
In addition to countless friends and colleagues, PAUL is survived by his former wife, ANN. Funeral arrangements are private.

He old office was located in the town where I love..l000 River Road Potomac..MD 20854 USA..
He also brought you a bunch of sort of turntable hit artists from Japan in the mid 80s..

Hi there. Here are some really, really old tapes of Radio Top Shop jingles from around 1983/5.
Jingles feature a package from Marty Ross (don't know how I got those) - but hello Marty - wherever you are.
Also dropped in some 80s Burger King commercials that we played at Top Shop and which feature Bill Mitchell.
Quality is awful - and probably only 15 people in the whole of the UK will be interested - but here they are in all their glory.

I have a question: has anyone herd of a reelworld jingle sung entirely in Spanish? I already herd jingles sung in English, but for Spanish speakers, who listens to stations that plays the following formats: chr/ac/country, has ever herd of a radio jingle sung completely in Spanish?

WSBA mystery jingles

Back in 1976 when I was working part-time at the "Mighty 910 WSBA" the jingle selection was limited to the cuts contained here. I would love help in identifying the package(s) in this montage. After listening to Len's new re-sing of the TM Good Feelings cut I thought I remembered having a copy of the original. Sure enough, I found it in a box of aging jingle tapes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the audio is still remarkably good. So for those of you into classic TM here's a link to the demo. Be advised it's a bit long at just over 23 minutes.

Chris Kershaw 1949-2013

April 28, 2013 - Christopher C. G. Kershaw passed away today in Dallas after a lengthy illness. He was 63.

Chris was a talented musician, singer, writer/arranger and producer, and for nearly four decades he was an integral part of the JAM sound. In the years following his time at PAMS in the early 1970s, Chris became part of several other music production companies. At JAM, he worked with us on projects and sessions since our earliest days, and was on staff here for 13 years. Over all that time he wrote over 1,500 JAM jingles, and used his distinctive tenor voice on tens of thousands of radio IDs and commercials for JAM clients around the world.

Chris was always happiest when making music, whether live or in the studio. We thank him for sharing that joy, and wish him peace. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife Carolyn and his son Clayton. -jmw

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday.

trip updates thread

this will be my thread for updates on any trips i plan, and for any suggested stations. i'll also add trips that are still up in the air. to start, my first confirmed trip is memorial day weekend of next year, where i'll be traveling to Chicago IL. trips that are up in the air are: Thanksgiving weekend, traveling to Gary, IN, a suburb of Chicago, and a couple of hours from indianapolis, IN. Summer next year, traveling to Dallas, TX, my biological dad is relocating there. quite possibly to florida as well.
