Jinglemad Jingle Day 2014 Wed, 09 Apr 2014 00:32:36 +0100 Prometheus 9932@/index.php?p=/discussions
Here are the details for the Jinglemad Jingle Day 2014 [as heard on Jinglemad Radio].

It's in Portsmouth on June 21st (but that happily extends between June 20th - 22nd for the real hardcore).

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

We are in the process of arranging some VIP guests, guest speakers, a visit to Portsmouth's heritage radio station, fun activities and... er... other stuff.

It would be great to know that you've marked that weekend clear in your diary for pure, unadulterated jingle anorakism. Please show your intention to attend by registering on this page.

Keep listening to Jinglemad Radio for more information and we'll continue to post information here.

If you're unsure, basically it's a weekend of friends, beer and jingles. Anything else is a bonus.

Keep an eye out on Twitter for #JingleDay

Here's a 'New Yorker' article about him:

Here he is playing JAM jingles:

JAM Pub Quiz question Sat, 29 Mar 2014 05:02:12 +0000 JAM / PAMS 9920@/index.php?p=/discussions
If Jon should ever set a diabolically tough "History of JAM" one, I'll bet we'd all struggle to get into double-figures, no matter how much we think "we know"! :)

Well, let's see how this goes. Here is a very short and simple quiz, consisting of just one question (it must be a very small pub):

In 1978 JAM created a few unusual jingles for BBC Radio 2 to announce the frequency (wavelength) changes that took place that year. There were several versions, but here are two of them...

Radio 2 Has Made A Move

The question is: Where did these tracks come from? Were they custom cuts made for Radio 2, or were they existing tracks (and if so, who were they made for)?

There's no real prize here, other than being able to amaze me (which, admittedly, is worth nothing). Usually when I think there's some JAM trivia that no one could possibly know, I discover that someone does indeed have the answer. So I'm just curious to know if you can solve this one, because I have never seen it discussed here and I'm giving it a difficulty level of "8". Surprise me.

I'll wait about a week for the replies, and then tell you the correct answer. Current or former JAM staff not eligible.

Most recent: "Narcissus" - jingles that sing about the companies that made them:

For those without Quicktime, I've put the audio on Soundcloud, but the accompanying explanation on Bob's site.

"We are (insert one-sylable station name)"
"This is (insert one-sylable station name)"

Dumbed-down UK.
"Feed'em nothing but burgers and all they'll want to eat is ... burgers" as someone once said.

Still, at least they're Made in Britain! Hooray? yes? @-)
And they do get the core frequency in - but why must every package now all start every cut with a synthy logo to virtually the same "ADSR settings" (remember those?) as everyone else's ? Can't they get out of the "can only use the Presets" mode?

Every station now (further) sounds the same. At least the tracks sound "funky", but usually the "underneath bits" don't get heard nowadays - but only SIX "main cuts", all very "WB" but sound like what every other WB client has - and "other musical notes" ARE "available" on a piano keyboard if they have one for creating logos - or is this a "WB trademark logo" so people will always know the cuts are made by them?]]>
