Of course I'm a Dallas fan.... but for stations who have to be 'politically correct' and not use US companies, or who want something simple but effective, I DO like these jingles because of their VERY clear vocals... Even on a very small speaker the other side of the room I can hear every word..
Yes they goUP at the end, but are not sCrEeChY like some 'modern' companies.... and no 'oh yeah yeahs...' Hurrah....
As said on the 1969 demo for the (currently debated!) Now Sound - "Keep 'em SHORT"!
No tiresome thump-clap how-do-we-fill-up-30-seconds-with-(Len's "favourite" lyrics)-ramps-for-the-sake-of-doing-ramps (at least not on that snippet...!), no over-processing gunge, good clear vocals that cut through so that listeners clearly HEAR who they're listening to, and a cheery fresh interesting tagline that isn't based on yet another "choose your words from the grid of the same tired old 6 words that include "More", "Variety", etc". :)
I do wonder sometimes how UK (or US English-speakers for that matter) would react if their "favourite stations" started having all their jingles sung in a foreign language instead of their "national tongue"? :-D
Is there a demo for these jingles? To be fair, maybe these are short mixes, and they have longer versions with ramps and such. But I do like the production and vocals on these - another fine job by Brandy.
As an avid radio ID jingle collector, I`m one of those collectors who collects ALL jingles “good” or “bad”, Brandy over the years have always produced jingles that have gone in in the “good” folder.
Love these Joe FM jingles, no problem with them at all.
The demos and jingles in-the-clear can be heard here…
I don't think Brandy quite "designed the sonic logo" for Joe FM as claimed though! It was in use on the original Scot FM custom (HLC?) years ago. Maybe they got "ground wave" reception across the North Sea from Edinburgh and "subconsiously" thought of the logo later... :/
Isn't this basically the same logo Reelworld has used on their "Bob FM" packages? Not to mention that I remember them claiming their MNM logo was original - a certain "Peacock" would want a word with them on that. But I digress - these jingles are nice. They do have some "oh yeah yeahs" and such, but also have strong clear vocals, a distinctive sound, and something that's missing in all too many jingles these days - PERSONALITY!
I had the privilege of having a tour of Brandy's studio complex when I was last in Brussels in 2008 and have to say I was very impressed with their set-up.
Out of all the packages Brandy have produced, my favourites are the ones for Joe FM in Belgium, followed by the "Enjoy! packages for the previous incarnation of the station - 4FM.
Really love the stuff this production house does. Hopefully they might get a commission to do the imaging for a UK station one day...........
Iain, as far as I'm aware Brandy do not offer personal cuts at the reduced rates we have become accustomed to with the likes of JAM, iJingles, Radioscape etc; It's a shame really as I would really like to add an "Enjoy" cut to my personal collection.
Just to add to this thread, I have just spotted that Joe FM has updated it's Slogan from "The Smile The Music" to "Your Greatest Hits" and has got a new jingle package from Brandy to go with it:
