JAM Breakthrough stations ?
  • BarrasBarras May 2007
I`ve always been fond of the Breakthrough package, as it was the first JAM package that I got to use on-air, when I was working in professional radio. Particularly like cut #1, the TOH cut and I was curious to know of any other stations who have used it.

I have jingle audio (Breakthrough cut #1) from these stations...

KMLE (Camel Country 108) in Phoenix also used cut #1 from Breakthrough. They sounded great on a country station!

Here at Channel 4 Dubai, we had Breakthrough, but not Cut #1.
  • BarrasBarras May 2007
Totally agree Neal, Breakthrough does work very well on country stations. Sounding good on "Cat Country" (WCTK) a country station in Providence RI, here`s Breakthrough #1...

And here`s how it sounded in Phoenix on KMLE...

    Another Breakthrough station...

    WVAQ Morgantown WV
  • tvnutboytvnutboy May 2007
I'm not sure if they've used cut 1, but on the JAM "20 Years in 20 Minutes" reel, they use a Breakthough "Murphy in the Morning" cut for WKQX (Q101) Chicago. I'm gonna call it a hunch and say Yes, they used the rest of the package as well, but I'm gonna need some more evidence (Stick it in a "Maybe" pile, perhaps?).
  • The station I started off as a baby DJ was OOG Radio in Groningen City Netherlands. It jumped to #1 when we relaunched it as an adult CHR in 1995/1996. We purchased BREAKTHROUGH with a full vocal sound. The package was partly on the air for over 10 years.

I managed to find some cuts in my collection, sadly I do not have most cuts anymore... The lyrics say Dag En Nacht Jouw Zender / Day And Night Your Station, and one cut has the frequency 106.6 sung in it.

I'm looking forward to Dave doing the same for Turbo Z :)
  • For a short time WPLJ called itself Mojo Radio, as I remember with the Early Morning Energizers as morning show. I'm not shure but I think these two cuts were sung for that period. I could be wrong: maybe there was another station that called itself Mojo Radio?

Thanks to Jon Wolfert at JAM who has just emailed me with this information about Breakthrough...

"According to our database, Breakthrough cut #1 has been sung at least 125 times, and at least 207 stations worldwide have ordered some or all of Breakthrough."

Jon also went on to say, the database is a couple of months behind and doesn`t include recent entries.

Pleased to say, I`ve now got 30 resings of Breathrough cut #1 - only 95 to go !!!

Thanks again for the info. Jon.

    David Barras
  • David, you mention Z107 in Hamburg Germany, I'm almost shure there was a station called Zandvoort 107 ZFM in the Netherlands. Their Breakthrough #1 Cut was on the 1991 Top Format demo 'Top Format by Format' in the CHR-section...

WPLJ was indeed called Mojo Radio in 1991, but they had resings from TM Century.

The cuts you posted are from Mojo Radio in the UK -

Hi folks.. first time I have posted since joining the site a while back.

Re Breakthrough TOH cut - it was used here in New Zealand on Q90FM in New Plymouth (Taranaki region) between 1989 and 1991. Although, it wasn't actually used as a TOH jingle. They just played it out of commercials like the rest of the cuts.

You can hear it here: http://www.4shared.com/file/16487842/4cc7732f/Q90FM_-_Taranaki_-_Breakthrough_TOH.html

    Enjoy!

This is what I still love about Jingle Mad, here we have a post from New Zealand ! 8)

Thanks very much Duane for posting the Q90FM Breakthrough #1 cut - never heard that version before.

Plus, I`ve Just been informed of another station that used Breakthrough - WKQX-Chicago IL

  • prisnzprisnz May 2007
You're welcome! I've always loved this cut too... it was great to discover this website and find out that I'm not the only one going crazy over jingles :p

Incidentally, a now defunct station here in Palmerston North, NZ also used Breakthrough between 1989 and 1991 but sadly they did not use cut #1. That station was called 2QQ FM.

Again, glad to be of some help. Good luck in your search for more Breakthrough #1 cuts!

    Regards
    Duane

Wow! I loved hearing those jingles on Energy FM at the time and it was great to hear them again. Cheers wixy1360 for posting them.

In fact, I contacted Energy FM a number of times in the hope of obtaining a copy of their master but sadly without any luck.

wixy1360: any chance of sending me a high quality copy of those cuts, please? It's not often that my locals pop up on this site! :)

Any TFM fans know this story on this ?

There are two versions of Breakthrough #1 for TFM Cleveland, England - have a listen to this piece of audio where you can hear two sings on the "96.60" harmony...

    http://www.davidbarras.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/JAM_TFM_Breakthrough_2versions.mp3

In my ears, both versions sound good and I`ve heard both "96.60" sings on aircheck tapes, just curious to why they had it re-sung ?

Hope you don`t mind me "bumping" this post up about the question in the previous entry...re: TFM - two versions of Breakthrough`s TOH cut for TFM.

Plus, does anyone know - was it David Tighe who commissioned Breakthrough for TFM ?

Is Scotland's Q-96 Paisley in there? They certainly had
    Cut 1 and others.

Clyde 1 Glasgow also had various other cuts from Breakthrough
in their JAM Composite but not Cut 1, ditto Channel 103 Jersey.
Did Island FM Guernsey have a couple in their JAM composite perhaps?
  • theniceguytheniceguy July 2007
One to add: the BRT top 30 from the Belgian National Broadcaster BRT (now VRT)

    Thanks David!

Thats obviously from the old ALfa Collectors cassette...

As we're on the topic, anyone out there ever come across
the Q96 and/or Island FM JAM Breakthrough etc etc circa
1992 Composites "in the clear" rather than the semi-montaged
demo cassette versions? Or for that matter, the Clyde One
Turbo-Z cut #10 (The Best in the West" sono etc)???

could someone explain why most of those demos in the photo are mono?
    whats wrong with stereo demos?
  • BarrasBarras October 2007
Good question Mike, hopefully Jon@JAM might see this post and enlighten us...

I know a lot of the earlier JAM demos in the 1970s (and reference dubs) were sent out to American radio staions in "mono" as the Top 40 stations of that time were on AM and obviously broadcast in mono.
