My first Jam personal cut
  • scotronscotron February 26
Image and video hosting by TinyPic I found these PAMS demos in a huge box of cassettes the other day, plus an item I thought I had lost. My first JAM personal cut which for some reason I had ordered in DAT format. No idea why! Why did surprise me was the date. This was ordered way back in June 1995!!! Would never has put it that far back. Time flies etc.. The cut was from Magic Is The Music Cut 11.
  • nleibonleibo February 27
But you didn't post the "cut"...???
  • GrahamCollinsGrahamCollins February 27
    Hi Ron

If you need it transferred digitally I have a working DAT deck in my studio :)

    Best

  • scotronscotron February 28
Hi Graham. Thanks for the offer. I had it transferred years ago to CD and also my PCs. I had just 'lost' the DAT. But if need it re-transferred, I will give you a call. :-)
  • I've found mine, how do I upload the photo?
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston February 28
Duncan, Ron was able to upload his pic with the info we put on JM a wee while back, if you want to give it a try

And nothing wrong with anything from the excellent JAM "Magic" packages...

{Not my first JAM cut, that was Hot KIIS #12, but this one is 5/7 voice group and excellent enunciation!]

  • It worked! My parents (I’ve just realised how cool my mum and dad are) bought me a jingle for Christmas 1988. Santa didn’t quite get it to me on time.
An Alfasound resing of Warp Factor 14, with Steve England sono. I won’t upload it.
Years later I had the same cut recorded for Lincs FM and then had it sung again (this time by JAM) as a personal cut- which I love

    17ips ? That's a first !

Please do (upload). I'd love to hear both.

Wow, this thread reminds me that back in (I'm guessing) 1978-80 or so I bought three Tapetrix (aka Alfasound) Sonotronix jingles. I no longer have the tape boxes or indeed the master tapes. When I rediscovered my jingle collection, I sent them all to the late, great David Barass who converted all the audio to MP3 for me.

  • "17ips ? That's a first !"

Spotted that too! (15 IPS is the right answer, for anyone pre-digital-era!)
Maybe it resolves the threads of people wondering if/why some particular version of some cut(s) "sounds faster"
    than others !!!

"Please do (upload). I'd love to hear both"

Go on Duncan, we've all got stuff that has "evolved" between versions!
  • You asked for it... 3 versions of Warp Factor #14. Recorded in 88, 95 and 2015

  • Liked the use of "Alt'ing" with the sung-sono and group vocals on the 2015 version!

Jon did that for me on a couple of mine, and as well as increasing "mix-outs potential"
its really worthwhile paying a wee bit more for to make a "standard" cut sound that bit
    different from the run-of-the-mill versions!
    :^)
  • Steve England sono.

If that sonovox on the first jingle is Steve England/Alfasound, then it's actually very impressive indeed. It's very much hot on the heels of Jon Wolfert's on the 3rd jingle.

Love your Warp Factor Cut 14 Resings Dunt! I was always surprised more stations over here never had that jingle resung, especially Beacon Radio!
  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
  • You just can't beat a bit of "Alt-ing" (Copyright Iain Johnston 2019)
Only JAM can make it sound this good...…..

Unfortunately Pete that Soundcloud link isn’t working?
  • jonnojonno March 2
    works for me
  • ratnobratnob March 2
Loving all these blasts from the past (the jingles, I mean, not the contributors ????).
Just realised the thread is about first JAM personal cut, not first *any* personal cut.
So, mine was a custom acapella made in 2005:

  • Gameswizard, yes it’s Steve- I watched him record the sono for the Lincs FM version.
Hey, I’m always “lovin’ the sono”

  • My first JAM cut - 2007, Hot KIIS cut #12, with "ALT-ing" sonovox (c) Iain Johnston 2019 (thanks Pete!)

  • Back on topic..
Here's my first JAM cut from 1992 (Which I believe features the "First Generation" JAM Singers)

I remember that on many a tape that dropped through my letterbox :)
    YES I'm that old
Hey! that means you are too hehehehe
  • A couple of years ago Warp Factor #14 was the front runner for our new jock cuts at Solid Gold GEM AM. Unfortunately Jon wouldn't allow it as the BBC still had market exclusivity for it as part of the mini package created for Tony Blackburn's Pick of The Pops, even though by then he had left Radio 2. We chose Skywave #13 instead.
  • Good game ;)
I got my 1st personal cuts back in 1990, a composite of Skywave and Warpfactor. As you rightly guessed, WF#14 is in there. Had I realised that most people heard "Seedy Music", I'd have probably rethought the lyrics ^^ I had it done again many years later with new lyrics :)

Seedy music sounds quite errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr interesting like the love zone but a little dirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtier!

Actually, I got my dates muddled. THIS is my 1st order from 1995 . . . . Absolutely gorgeous vocals!!!

    Amazing!
And I love that the 7 voice vocals are actually in stereo and haven't all been mixed down to mono - i.e. everyone's singing in the centre(!) - which seems to happen all to often these days.

  • The original On The Coast cut does pan the vocals left, right and then centre, so Sean's version is just following this. I will stand corrected but jingle vocals are placed pretty much in the centre of a mix to give power (as with 99 percent of pop music) with perhaps a very slight pan on each stack to widen it a little. The reverb IS stereo. Pushing the vocals all around the mix just weakens the impact. If only Jon was here to explain more.....

That is so cool that your parents actually bought you your own personal cut.

Absolutely superb. As usual, nothing but the best from JMW and the crew at JAM.l
