  • Hey Jingle Fans!

I'm not here often, but now I'm gonna say thank you very mouch for the great Jon Wolfert Shows. I can not listen to them live periodically, but now I could download all the shows. It is very interesting to find out more of the american world of jingles and stations.

    Thanks for the info! :)

PS - I know you've probably done certain filenames phonetically, however its Barry Carman not Berry Carmin :^)

Yup... My last name (as well as my brother's) is spelled Carman. I'm always amused when samplers I put together a decade ago show up online. Sorry one of 'em is cut off at the end, though.

    Scoped show (19 May 2019):
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/rr/rewound-20190519-sc.mp3

It's a WABC / WABC-fm / WPLJ special, with lots of glorious audio.
  • Never knew that WABC 770 at one stage was relayed on FM in one era!
    Excellent show this week (again).
  • nleibonleibo May 21
Not sure if "relayed" is the same as "simulcast"--but if it is--yes it was and it was GREAT for recording air checks--IF you had the right equipment/patch cords, etc...
  • Here's the full show from Sunday 2nd June 2019 (running time 3hrs 6min):
    https://www.upload.ee/files/10046888/02.Jun.2019_19.59.mp3
  • There was no Jon Wolfert show between 20:00-23:00 on Sunday 9th June 2019 due to the "Jingle Palace" having no electricity due to thunderstorms.
  • Yesterdays show: Pre-recorded intro which included a repeat of a show from February 2019:
    https://www.upload.ee/files/10105394/16.Jun.2019_19.59.mp3
NOTE: Jon's Rewound slot (20:00-23:00) started late and also ran over by at least 3 mins so the end is missing but it was a repeat anyway...
  • nleibonleibo June 18
Pretty "slick", that Jon--"pre-recorded" open & monologue segueing into a "Rerun"--he "had" me until he "fessed up"...:)
  • Was there not a show on 23rd June?
  • Was there not a show on 23rd June?

No, Pete. There was a problem with the internet at Jon's end.
Ladbrokes are currently taking bets as to whether there will be a show tomorrow or not.

NOTE: Jon's next show is on Sunday 14th July 2019.

Are you sure your question belongs in the "thread" for "Jon Wolfert (JAM) Returns to Rewound Radio"?
  • iJingles said:

(Do you already have The OMM Production Kit??) -Sean

    Hi Sean.
Yes, I do have a copy of the one minute montage cuts that you offered a few years ago (if those are the ones you mean).

@neilbo Sean's question was more of a side note (hence it being bracketed) as his initial response was for posting links to Jon's show's. I doubt it will steer the thread off course to somewhere else ;)
  • Davey_wDavey_w July 18
A superb show from Jon .... but then again I am a bit biased on this occasion ;-)
  • Here's the full show from Sunday 21st July 2019 (running time 3hrs 6min):

  • Apart from the superb helping of Nostalgia, jingle tales and rarities enjoyed by us 'anoraks'....

...today's UK radio DJs (so called 'presenters') would do well to learn from the flow focus fluidity and seamless vocal linking by Jon..... the skills Johnny Walker, Alan Freeman, Noel Edmonds and a few others perfected....
  • ratnobratnob July 22
Yes, JMW has a rare gift of making us as listeners all feel we're part of a club and yet all feel he's talking to us personally. And it's intelligent stuff rather than banalities.
  • I agree with the above.

Jingles are in his DNA but his love and understanding of radio shines through each Sunday- the secret of his success?
  • ratnobratnob July 23
Here's the scoped version of Sunday's show: http://www.jingles.com/audio/rr/rewound-20190721-sc.mp3
  • For various reasons, I've not even been able to listen to the scoped shows of recent times,
so I've not been keeping-up with Jon's "theme topics" of late.

So I wish I could have "contributed" to e.g. the "first jingles I ever heard" thread, and a few others :^[

PS - liked the "Wixy" reference :^) Was an awful of "Wixy" radios in 1960s US radio.
    Hence my old handle...

PPS - KPOI K-poi Honolulu? where's my old 1969 tape???

PPPS - "lively companion" old jingles on 1960s pirate radio - likewise indeed, on offshore Radio Scotland.
Who had probably the first PAMS jingle I ever heard but didn't know was away back then, (and probably many
other people) - a chop-up edit of "Remember This Golden Classic" with the WABC edited out.
Ironically, a "community station" about 10 miles from here IS STILL USING a digital edit of that cut.
("the preceding is a Copyrighted Feature"... maybe hasn't reached their staff yet?)
  • Well, folks, I wanted to let you all know that I've submitted my comments and requests to Jon via the Rewound Radio email link (under Jon's name). One comment is related to a jingle demo presentation while another involves one of the PAMS resings for Rewound Radio. I will not give anything away, but I'm sure Jon will use one of my comments on the air when he gets around to it.

Great show and great jingle memories as always!

IF there was a WABC "version" of "Golden Classic"--it was an "Audition" copy as the version that aired was "Remember This Solid Gold One" (from Series #29)..

  • "IF there was a WABC "version" of "Golden Classic"--it was an "Audition" copy"

    Indeed Neil.

In the 60s pirate radio era (and beyond) it was the demo (and many other PAMS ones) that were
"used" by those stations and many others e.g. hospital radio stations (something that probably
    was unique to the UK)?

One story that circulated in Scotland years ago was that of a "mobile disco" that was called
"Seventy Seven W A B C" who actually had their very own jingles - needless to say it was
    PAMS 27.

Air version of PAMS 27 WABC - indeed have those (and the KenR release, which seemed incomplete to me.

    https://www.upload.ee/files/10285715/28.Jul.2019_19.59.mp3
(The show starts almost 1 minute early hence Jon's musical intro starting part way in).
    Inc.:
01hr07min51sec - Special guest Ken Justiss.
  • Noted Jon's comment at the start about being "licensed".

Don't know about these days, but in the 60s etc, "deejays" on US radio actually had to pass an FCC exam
which included some of the basics of equipment maintenance even that of the transmitters (AM a lot hairier
    than today's compact FM TXs).

Could never imagine many a UK "presenter" having much of clue on the technical side, especially some of
    today's "celebrity" ones!
  • nleibonleibo July 30
The FCC 3rd Class "licensing" aspect of U.S. Radio was demoted to an FCC "permit" for about $20 (US) in the 1980's--you could just mail the FCC your application and check/money order and in about a week or 2 , wham--you get your FCC 3rd Class permit (which allowed you to "operate" the equipment and take the meter readings)--but to repair the equipment, you still needed to pass an exam for an "Official" FCC License.
  • Port Arthur's KFMP - some people have been looking for those Series 27 (including "Surf")
cuts for over 40 years - ever since it appeared in a promotional montage thing in the early 1970s!

Ken Justiss "The Travelling Sonovox Player" interview - fascinating :^)

And nice to hear the "Lake Michigan" audio, which I posted on JM a while back :^)

@gameswizard Many thanks as always for providing the full show links.

I don't get chance to listen live on a Sunday so I download the shows onto my sports watch and listen during the week when I'm out running. Nothing like a bit of jingle time to keep the motivation going! :)
  • ratnobratnob August 19
Agreed - @gameswizard you are brilliant at uploading so quickly and consistently.

    No worries :)
  • As mentioned before, I can't get the time to listen to these properly, even the scoped ones, so I miss a lot.

When I do get a chance to dip in, I hear Jon mentioning stations that I scrounged jingle dubs from all those years
ago when some of us on this side of the Pond were doing what Jon was doing in the States.

This week - he says surely WHO 1040 (Des Moines, Iowa) must have had more jingles over the years
    than he knows about?

From 1972 I've got a WHO reel that what was one of several packages I always dreaded getting dubs of - a
very dated-sounding Roy Ross effort, which turned up in many places surprisingly.

For those who can bear to listen to it, I'll upload it to S/c later.

But I have to say, and no offence to those who kindly provide us with the full & scoped versions, which I DO
greatly appreciate - even a simple one-line "description" of the "Jingle time" contents could be added to the posts,
I'd probably not miss so much of things that I could perhaps contribute some classic jingle audio to!

  • I feel greatly humbled to have had JMW "do" a bit from my Collection, by including some of the WHO Des Moines
cuts from my earlier days of collecting tapes directly from stations around the world.

I never expected Jon to even mention my WHO, never mind do a whole big "feature" based upon it!

And the excellent "history lesson" of the Roy Ross material and the original company.

And the WINY story! A refreshing attitude. WDRC, WABC.

Jon's "knowledge" of his industry and even almost every cut ("double speed flutes" !!!) is astounding!

I too still hope to "replace" whats left of my crumbling 40+ year-old-plus reels with "digital source"
copies; the KenR Collectors CD days were a tremendous help though :^)
