Ta v much - always a highlight listening to Jon’s show!
  • ntcarver0ntcarver0 January 18
For anyone who wants an index of all the shows, I've uploaded all the scoped versions provided by JMW to a directory on my website.

Feel free to download and listen at your leisure.

Its been a long time since I've seen a website that can be "wandered around" up and down at sub-levels like that!
Hope your protection software is good Noah.

PS - I know you've probably done certain filenames phonetically, however its Barry Carman not Berry Carmin :^)

Thanks for the correction. I should have picked up on that misspelling but I didn't. I got the mp3 files from a friend of mine, and I kept the incorrect spelling that was originally on the files. Fixing that now.

As for protection software, I'm hoping it's secure too LOL. I'm semi-confident in the protections I've put in place, but I am by no means a seasoned webmaster. I guess I'll be learning as I go.

    There's no show this week.
Jon should be back Sunday 27th January 2019.

Allan (Sniffen) did play some NEW jingles that Jon (JAM) had produced for him & played Jon's "explanation" of the origin of the WABC Chime. I have a recorded copy (approx 40 minutes--then "Rewound Radio" Automation kicked in...)--if anyone's interested...
  • jonnojonno January 20
Serious anorak moment as he played all the mixouts :-D zip!

Please do. Would you mind if I uploaded them under my jingles folder on my website?

... the 'Heatwave' , Motown 'inspired' cut!!

    Whoo ere!
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 22
Enable "Download button" please, 'cos anything over 5-10 minutes long per file is not always able to be
listened to in real time, especially 1/2-hour say or more.
    Thanks!
  • Someone needs to send a PAMS Series 34A or 34B demo to Allan. That "brand new jingle" at 8:08 is in fact a re-sing! It's a REALLY good one, but a re-sing nonetheless. Same goes for the Series 36A jingle at 12:19. I've always loved that Contempra package!

The problem with the DL option is that it's limited to (I think) only 100 downloads.
  • gameswizardgameswizard January 22

The problem with the DL option is that it's limited to (I think) only 100 downloads.

I can't see 100 people wanting to downloading it via link on jinglemad, and not many would randomly want to download it simply coming across it by accident on SoundCloud.
Regardless, a free file hosting service like upload.ee or zippyshare, or dropbox are alternate ways to share it unlimited.

  • I can tell you that I've made jingles available for DL on SoundCloud without promoting them ANYWHERE...and those 100 go fast. (I don't even have many followers on there!)
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 22
Wasn't aware the DL function was "capped" !

When I upload to S/c for JM linking, I set it "private" and only put the link on here.

Even with that I find total strangers "apparently" "Liking" my audio - but there's a lot of
"buy a like" promoters out there on S/c, who I just block.
  • jonnojonno January 22
A number of my soundcloud files have maxed out at 100 downloads.
Probably teaching granny to suck eggs here Iain, there are websites and browser plugins that will give you soundcloud download function (just depends on how wary you are about using such things).
  • ntcarver0ntcarver0 January 22
I don't generally use services like that because they have a tendency to give you audio files that are lower quality than the original.
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 22
Agreeing with Jonno, some of the S/c downloaders I've tried before have either "disappeared"
or were dodgy to use, or indeed got intercepted by my (paid for) security software.

If something is a short audio post, I'll record it in realtime with an audio editor and play later
and/or keep. The big files I have to hope that the DL mode is enabled.
  • ratnobratnob January 22

    DAmmit Neil!
I've just done a "test run"
    [deleted]

    And it worked OK.

    Edit:-
    link deleted now.
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
For anyone wanting to "know how"...

    1) When uploading a "track", do so as usual.
    2) Select "public" or "private" ("private" means the link will only be "published" wherever its copied/pasted to, e.g. this forum)
    3) Click on "Permissions"
    4) Click on "Access" (usually top left hand of choices, and likely "greyed-out" by default.
    5) Click on "Enable Direct Downloads"
    6) Ensure "Upload Complete" IS SHOWN
    7) Click on "Save" button
    8) Get/copy/paste-over the "blued" Share link field as normal.

    a) When running the link from e.g. here on JM, when the audio file characteristic id displayed, click on "More" (three dots?)
    b) Select/click "Download File", and the audio file should start downloading, and may show a progress box on lower left hand screen.

[ If any errors in the above on my part, corrections/feedback appreciated! IJ ]

PS - at the moment I'm trying to see if the "Download..." can be enabled retrospectively on an existing upload,
but haven't got that going as yet.
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
    Retrospectively applying "Download Button"...

    1) Goto "Tracks"
    2) Find desired track
    3) Check the LHS box beside filename
    4) Click on the "pencil" icon towards RHS
    5) Select the "Permissions" as before
    6) Carry out Access/Enable as previous post
    7) Click "Save Changes"

Its possible that the "saved change" MIGHT change the private code at the end of the file link compared
with an original cut/paste posting - about to try to check that; that would disable "old" versions of the link

    https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-kwno-winona-pt-goodthing/s-1QmO1

    Testing, testing...
    https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-capital-cfm/s-FZW1m
    privae, no downlaod

    xyz
    https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-capital-cfm/s-FZW1m
    private, download enabled retro
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
    Hmmm
"working" but might still have a "third party access without needing S/c username/etc" access bug.

Neil - can you try testing the above links for me please if you're "live" at the moment?
    Thanks!
    IJ
  • nleibonleibo January 23
I was able to d/l it Iain, (all 32 minutes)..
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
    Good-oh! :^)

Did you attempt to download the item below "xyz" above OK, BUT WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT YOUR S/C name and password in though?
Thats the bug I haven't had a chance to clear yet - the download should be "private" but accesible solely with my link
but not need S/c "membership" to do it.
  • nleibonleibo January 23
tell me where the settings are and I'll set it for you--don't use SoundCloud that much
  • nleibonleibo January 23
I put it in your folder in Dropbox, Iain
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
Hullo Neil...just arrived back...your file downloading OK and also d/box.
    Thats all fine.

Now, perhaps we've got a bit of wires crossed now?

Further up the page, I was trying to create a "Noddy Guide" of steps as how to setup or retrospectively apply
the DL mode for anyone else who wants to apply it when using S/c, and using a couple of my existing
S/c files to try it out and test DL.

The "bug" I mentioned seems to "need" someone to login with theie S/c name & PW to be able to download
a file from S/c, or at least a "private" one. I'm trying to ensure that while "private" anyone on JM can still do
a file download OK from the "private" or "secret" S/c link one might post to this forum, but avoid "public"
    rubbish happening.

I'm hoping any JMer might have seen how to get around this hiccup before?
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 23
For a moment back ontopic - the Allan Sniffen audio...

    1) agreed - PAMS 34 and 36 items - the 34 was on BBC Radio One in 1967 - badly!!!
    2) that programme was a VERY hard listen - heavy compression and long-tail reverb was great sound
on USA AM radio in the '60s, '70s - I've heard many airchecks of how effective that could be.

But on wider bandwidth internet it sounds very harsh - the jingle reverb getting extended so far by long tail
reverb somewhat scrambles the instrumentation/vocals. And the "intake of breath" of deejay speech gets
    heavily over-emphasised by the compressor.

Remember that Allan was playing an aircheck (already processed with reverb) on the air...going through the processing and reverb AGAIN. So, you're hearing DOUBLE the effects on the Jon segment.

I thought only the microphone went through the reverb...?

  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston January 28
Listen to any ancient WABC airchecks and certainly e.g. sticking carts can be heard with reverb tail at air,
so presumably Allan and Jon "re-create the WABC sound" as authentically as they can but using digital
reverb instead of the old plate/spring mechanical methods.

You could add reverb to any mics or line inputs on the board - so I'm guessing it was choice on Jon's part to sound different.

Here's the Rewound Radio show from June 24.

Even with the songs cut out, it's still over 2 hours long! (The interview alone was an hour.)
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/stash/Rewound-24Jun18.mp3

The interview starts at around 30:45, but skip at your own risk because there are fun jingle segments to either side.

    Thanks for listening!

The link above seems to be broken. When I click it, it redirects to the show on June 2nd. I've got a copy on my site, but not sure what's up with JMW's.

Jon's appears to have a broken system regarding the download links.
    For instance:
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/rr/rewound-20190120-sc.mp3 = Show from 10 February 2019
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/rr/rewound-20190317-sc.mp3 = Show from 17 February 2019
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/rr/rewound-20190310-sc.mp3 = Show from 10 February 2019

Why is the January link fetching a February show?
And why are March links active/fetching February shows?
    Strange indeed.

That behavior reminds me of an Apache module called mod_speling. It takes broken links to files in that directory and tries to redirect them to the closest match. Maybe he has implemented something like that on his Rewound directory. I'll do some testing when I get home from school to see how wide-spread this behavior is on the entire JAM site.

Luckily in a previous professional life, I had to make changes to take account of the US daylight savings time changes enacted in 2007 by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 - so I was aware that we'd have to tune in an hour early. Bonus, I get to go to bed an hour early!
