Jon Wolfert (JAM) returns to Rewound Radio
  • johnquincyjohnquincy October 2018
The 9/30 show was a repeat of the 9/9 show. Unfortunately, no scoped version of the 9/9 show has been made available.
  • Thanks for letting us know that the 9/30 show was a repeat...

I haven't gone through ALL the scoped recordings made available yet--but I am catching up--but I will say that Jon has done an amazing job with his show, and it is worth listening to every Sunday. If I had time every Sunday afternoon, I'd listen in live in its entirety, but unfortunately, other commitments get in the way.

I'd like to make a comment regarding one of the segments on the September 23rd show. Jon mentioned his "radio geek-out" moment that time signal station WWV should have been in the "Rewound Radio DJ Hall of Fame." (The segment starts at 36:50) What REALLY got me though was that clever jingle that the JAM team made for the occasion. Personally, I'd have a jingle meltdown if such a jingle exists in real-life in Colorado (WWV) and Hawaii (WWVH). At least the call letters weren't "sung" though...

For those of us who have little interest in American Football (NFL) on Sundays, this show is a wonderful "alternative"--keep 'em coming, Jon

Nice to hear the nod to Johnnie Walker via the WPTR anecdote.

WPTR Albany in its very last form "went dark" just a few days ago, so very "topical" on Jon's part.
    https://www.musicradio77.com/wwwboard/messages/445462.html

A station that as early UK collectors a lot of PAMS cuts got known in the 1960s.

    Eh?

Two days after I post some of my own-mooched old tape jingle dubs of WJJD Chicago (12th Oct),
JMW has WJJD jingles on his Rewound show 14th October...?

    Good stuff, this telepathy lark...!

EDIT:- a most eclectic selection of records on this particular edition I might add,
especially having an unscoped copy ;^)

    Yes thanks for the link...….
I can't listen to it "live" as I have to be in bed by 9pm (I have to be up at 4am every weekday)
In Reality.....that's the time they put us to bed in the "home" ;-)

  • nleibonleibo October 2018
If it makes you feel any better --that is my EXACT situation on Fri/Sat nights --in bed by 9pm to be at work by 4 am--"misery (does indeed) love company"..:)
  • Davey_wDavey_w October 2018
Sadly I can hardly ever get to listen live either, which is a great pity because when I did, I enjoyed getting "interactive" on the Rewound Radio Facebook page! So getting these links to listen to the shows after broadcast is fantastic - thank you!

I've just caught up on the episode where WPTR jingles were played. As JMW commented .. "nobody was sick on WPTR Day", implying that all the vocals were top notch. Can you imagine running a radio station back in the day and ordering PAMS Series 31.. only to find out that Marv Shaw was off sick when your cuts were being sung. I'd have demanded my money back :-)

Actually that's got me thinking ... were there any Series 31s cut back in the 60s without Marv in the group???
  • nleibonleibo October 2018
Can't answer your question--but to my ears, Marv WAS Series #31!!!..:)
  • First time listening to Jon's full show live, but sadly, automation took over at 5:48pm ET (USA) due to technical error (cut off at the beginning of a Carly Simon song). It was a GREAT show though!

Might be the only Sunday afternoon I'll get to hear the show all the way through live, as usually on Sundays I have other commitments, like grocery shopping, evening church events, etc... I'm only lucky enough to at least get the last 90 minutes of his show in without a scoped recording later on (when available). I won't give any spoilers away in what jingle stops Jon took this week, but it was a good one!
  • Davey_wDavey_w October 2018
Don’t suppose anyone has the link to the scoped show last week (21st October)? Really enjoyed the WNEW and Long Island stations on Jingle Time. And a big YAY for the JAM BBC Radio 2 classical cuts from the previous week.

It's really NOT the music I listen for! :-))
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
To those who posted the unscoped versions of Jon's November 4th show, thanks in advance for that. Although I'll wait a bit longer for the scoped ones when available before I download the unscoped files.

I wanted to make another comment about one of Jon's past shows. I just got through the 9/9/18 show that reran on 9/30, and towards the end of the show was a request for WGAR's "Class Action" jingles, especially cut 11. Cut 11 by itself doesn't bother me; it's the extended bed before it that some stations used that bothers me a bit as I write. I have an audio example of what I'm talking about: http://jingles.jeremyrichardson.com/audio/wichita1994.mp3 (it's profiled towards the end of the montage, and it was for KEYN-FM at that time)

My question is, has anyone dared to request that particular element of "Class Action" cut 11 before the actual sung jingle itself? I certainly hope not...
  • logodavelogodave November 2018
Why does that bother you Diana? It is the stager bed that was used on WGAR. And yes if buy CA#11 you can request the
matching stager from JAM. I bought it for WNCI Columbus and used it as a stager for "70's Saturday Night". I think it works
best as a bed for pre-recorded announcer copy into CA#11, not for talk over as on the aircheck but everyone has a different idea.
  • Jeffrey_T_MasonJeffrey_T_Mason November 2018
We used that Class Action stager at KOOL in Phoenix. LOVED it! So much so, in fact, we even tagged OTHER jingles with it at the top hour.
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
Hmmmmm... any audio examples of CA#11 used on air aside from the one I profiled? I know Suffolk County's "Oldies 98.1" uses the stager bed in a pre-recorded announcement (and they used that jingle cut for the TOH as far as I know), and SiriusXM's 70s on 7 uses that cut still, but the live announcers talk over the staging bed.
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
OK.... had a listen to WNCI's example of CA#11 and how it was used. Glad that audio is still online - http://jinglemad.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/9674/dave-sharp-wnci-aircheck/p1 (the audio link is on that thread)

Not sure about how it was used for KOOL-FM in Phoenix though, as I don't recall hearing it on an aircheck in the past.
  • logodavelogodave November 2018
Why does that bother you Diana? We still have not heard an honest answer. Just curious.
  • gameswizardgameswizard November 2018
Scoped show from Sunday 4th November:
    http://www.jingles.com/audio/stash/Rewound-20181104-sc.mp3
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
Logodave: I just worry that the CA#11 staging bed would be used the "wrong" way, i.e. letting it go on and on in the clear without hitting the actual sung jingle properly (or other jingles that "fit" the top of the hour). My jingle imagination has gone wild while it shouldn't be...

Gameswizard: thanks for posting the link to the scoped November 4th aircheck of Jon's show. Saves me the trouble from having to download the unscoped versions - which could serve as backup copies in a way. Haven't listened live to his shows lately and won't be able to check in this coming Sunday for the next one.

  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
Had a listen to Jon's show (11-11-2018) from the second hour in, and it was good. Didn't get to the Radio Nova segment you mentioned, gameswizard, but I have heard many of the Radio Nova cuts from other sites so I have a general idea in what Jon "might" have profiled.

I'll have to wait though for the scoped audio file of that show as the "upload.ee" site is not safe for me to use (but I can use Dropbox though).

Regarding the November 4th broadcast, I DID NOT expect Jon's Emergency Action Test segment to come about, but it was interesting to say the least. Good show as always though!

    Diana,

    You are quite the critic.
Great that you answered the question with a qualification finally.

    Now for something completely different,

I'm in the USA and sometimes Jinglemad does not come through on the internet.
It has become a very unreliable connect. Are we about to lose this website???

    ?
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 November 2018
I'm able to get the JingleMad site just fine, no major issues. Could it be a server issue at your end, logodave? Are you using Google Chrome? I know that Google Chrome doesn't work too well with the Jinglemad site as far as I know...
  • Davey_wDavey_w November 2018
Sometimes I have problems connecting to this website too - I'm in the UK so it's not just you logodave!

Just caught up with the 4th Nov show. That JAM stereo test that they put on some of the reel to reels is a thing of beauty :-)

  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston December 2018
I think everyone will appreciate Jon going ahead with the show this week, under the circumstances,
it clearly wasn't easy, and a fine tribute to Brian.

Personally, I liked hearing the Some Kind of Radio piece - some resings there I'd never heard before of
a package that was a favourite of mine back then - I used to have an actual 5" blue-box PAMS demo
reel of it once upon a time.

Also, and especially, the KIIS PAMS customs from the early 1970 - one of the "best hits" in my early
collecting days of writing off to stations was when in January 1972 a jiffy bag "thudded in" from
Wiltshire Boulevard with a 5" reel selection of jingles and "promos" direct from KIIS.

Having listened to Jon's audio, I now know that I'm NOT the first to have ever had Hot Kiis Cut #12
with sonovox on it - the station themselves beat me to it with their air-versions :)

For anyone not familiar with the original KIIS PAMS customs from when they first went on air,
here's a re-visit to my 2009 (!) montage when JM had a "Members audio posting area".

    https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles03/ij-wixy1360-classicpams-kiis-revisited-05dec2018wma/s-aWbTV

As I've said far too often before, I would welcome if Jon would put a list or something on the PAMS website pages
to clearly say which PAMS NON-Series package might be "available for re-sing", either "in whole or in part",
    to coin a phrase...

I recently had Jon produce an obscure cut for Jeffro Radio from a PAMS custom for the US Army! I had NO clue what the package was called or if it was even available. All it took was an e-mail and Jon not only identified the cut, but located the master tape. And YES, it was still on tape. Nobody had ever ordered anything from this package since they took over PAMS. (Probably not since they sang the damn thing in the 70s!)

My point: NEVER be afraid to ask...no matter how obscure.
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston December 2018
A quick PS to my post above - Jon and WWDC - I still have some of the Ralph Stacheon custom cuts, in stereo,
on a reel that I similarly got from them back in 1972 (it even came in a "pyschelic label" 5" box, plus A 30 minute
aircheck 7"reel) The jingles are still here - I haven't the nerve to try to repair the reel after 46 years!

I do have a "very old backup copy" though, the story of which is too odd to explain, but the audio from that
    will/appear later (hopefully).
  • IainJohnstonIainJohnston December 2018
OK, and with apologies for the "reference only" quality due to the audio source but credits due to
JP and GC that I could compile this at all, you won't hear anything like these in "woah, woah land"
    today...

    https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles03/ij-classicstacheon-wwdc-doubled-1/s-cMehC

Has Trella Hart, "doubled" PAMS 33 style, doing a sort-of Carol King sound-alike.

Probably the only package, other than maybe some Heller from that era, as "BIG" as that, either as
in size of cuts or in production content, was the PREVIOUS Ralph Stacheon for WWDC to this one.

(I still don't know HOW Jon managed in one to "feature" in the one show TWO station packages from
stations I blagged tapes from away back in 1972 - even when he did some WJJD Chicago recently in the
same week I'd put some of there's up on here!)

I would say that if anyone requests Jon talking in a fast yelling Top 40 jock mode again would be the one to blame! Segment in question is at 32:13 on the scoped aircheck...
  • nleibonleibo December 2018

  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 December 2018
After hearing the scoped version of the December 9th show last night (and going through one particular segment again tonight about the Good Music Singers), I'm ALMOST tempted to request one of the songs they did back then followed by either "The Only One" cut #17 for 610 WTVN in Columbus, OH, or one of the early KOST jingle cuts (no particular station in mind)... but thankfully I will not do it, for Jon's sake! (I hope he's not lurking here someplace reading this...)

Other than that moment, it was another great show!
  • petewilsonpetewilson December 2018
Yes it would be nice to hear some of the well-known classics that were sung by The Good Music Singers That's why I asked Jon the question as I was sure they were The "Dallas" Singers!
  • dianablanton1984dianablanton1984 December 2018
Um, Pete? I hope you don't pass along the "request" to hear one or two songs (in full) from The Good Music Singers in a future show.... I'd be cringing right now! (hence my earlier comment I posted last night)

By the way, I won't be present for Jon's holiday jingle show but shall check in again when Jon's show returns afterward on January 6th (I think that's the date)...

Just got done listening to the scoped Christmas show and it turned out to be a very good one. Well done, Jon! :-)

In regards to the December 30th show, I don't think you guys will be missing much as basically all Jon would be doing is playing the Top 77 songs on Rewound Radio that they are promoting through New Year's Day. Just read that Jon did a live show Friday afternoon in regards to that (I didn't know about it because I was at work today). So.... technically the usual jingle show would commence January 6th, but I could be wrong.

Well.... I owe you all an apology. Currently listening at the last hour of Sunday's show and Jon just played some Anita Kerr jingles, profiling Dick Biondi in the early 1960s on WLS. So he's playing jingles as usual along with the Top 77 (or so) songs too. Again, my apologies.

Question: was Sunday's (Dec 30th ) show "pre- recorded" as I didn't get the "feeling" it was "Live" (as usual)...

    Of course it's live.
Jon wouldn't use the jingle that says "...Completely live from the jingle palace in Dallas..." if it wasn't live.
Jon also say's "...we are happy to hear from you... ...we've already heard from Bob Dinan who is listening on his rowing machine... ...Hi to Morgan Cunningham..." and continues to tell folk how to get in touch.

Oh yeah, it's live and Jon is very particular about that fact. When I was at the Jingle Palace back in November, I inadvertently said "Oh is studio A where you record your Rewound Radio show?" I was using record generically but Jon immediately pointed out that it was all completely live and not recorded!

  • I happened to be listening live to the full show on Sunday January 6th, and thought I would bring up just a word of caution. Jon's "jingle mouse" bit happened to stand out to me as I write, and I would not advise you to slow down that jingle to half-speed or double-speed to hear the mouse's "real" voice...

Overall it was a great show and I look forward to next week's show, either live or scoped!

  • Listening to the show again, I just wanted to add to my earlier comments. The "jingle mouse" I was referring to was "Fenwick Mouse Jr." and I cheated on the audio file when I shouldn't be, already knowing who the real voice behind the mouse is. Anyone want to know who the real voice is during that jingle moment? I can't bear to post the half-speed (double-speed?) file here...
  • nleibonleibo January 11
Dan Ingram did the "Fenwick Mouse" track for WABC Radio!
  • Anyone want to know who the real voice is during that jingle moment?

I doubt there's a jingle geek on here who DOESN'T know...even without hearing it at half-speed. Just seems obvious to me!
