Sorry Geoff, but the reason why the TM singers said "We" is because they are singing about Jack FM! (I don't like Jack FM!!!) "They" play what they want, and they ask us NOT to request anything on that station, pretty much. If they said "You", it would have to be some sort of "interactive" radio station like WNEW-FM in New York, NY USA (Blink 102.7) before they switched to Fresh 102.7 (the calls are now WWFS-FM)

By the way, after viewing this, I've suddenly lost my jingle appetite. Oh, that reminds me...

They sound great.

I finally get to hear the rest of the cuts they used back then! It is a shame that this station is now Jack FM.

I believe Jake Kaplan also works for sister station 92.3 Now (WXRK) in New York, which has run liners berating their competitor Z100 for (among other things) using jingles. They even mockingly referred to the station as "the hot rockin' flame throwin' Z100", even though they haven't used those slogans in about 20 years. Sad indeed.

On a more positive note, I loved hearing those WQSR cuts. I think these are the best sings of Home of the Hits I've ever heard. Did WQSR air any other JAM packages? I know they used Tony Griffin's Super Hits.

Middlesex County, we like your style!

2WS was an AM Stereo station on 1224 kHz in West Sydney, hence the WS.

At one time there was a Thomson Creative re-sing package for them floating around; can't remember where I put the Mp3 dub, but its "out there".

In the cupboard here is a now very battered reel-to-reel 2WS sent me in the late 1980s; they were mainly Oldies then, and their jingles were partly "song-clones" (e.g. there is (was) a good one based on Itchycoo Park by the Small Faces; producer unknown, but probably Oz-based). The tape is on my list of "Round Tuit" salvage jobs!

Thanks, squire.
The cut I played wasn't by them though, was it? Had a slightly more homemade feel!

Ahhhhhhhh...just heard the jingle you posted and yes, it`s not Thompson Creative, furthermore, is it definitely 2WS ? sounds like it could be 2WX ?

You're right- it's 2WX - a sign either of my poor hearing, my poor jingle administration, or the singers' poor enunciation.
Keep those ears peeled, Mr B

I confess I hadn't listened to the cut when I posted (my old PC can't run current QuickTime), so I've just heard the audio on another machine...

...so it IS clearly 2WX not S - but the jingle is surely a list of placenames e.g. there's something like "Waikiki" (but Hawaii is K-stations), and "Tokyo (?) Beach", and a lot of very Maouri-sounding places.

My trusty old WRTH (1999 edition) doesn't show any 2WX, for Oz or NZ, or the various island groups, either as commercial or more likely a state-run station (they often had X, Y or Z callsigns), although the logo IS similar to the 2WS ones I have.

How about a quick email to our NZ JM'er "prisnz" perhaps?

(...good "mystery" one though Geoff!
Have you any other info or a longer clip???))

So it looks as if I may have got the wrong call-letters, wrong country, and possibly the wrong continent! Such competence.

Don't know anything about the cut and don't have any more audio. But thanks for the interest!

The jingle detective work continues...since you mentioned "prisnz" Iain (Duane in New Zealand), I remmeber that Duane posted that cut ages ago in another thread about place-names. We came to the conclusion that it`s probably the longest list of place-names sung in a jingle - I`ll try and get in touch with Duane and see if he knows any more about it...

The plot thickens ...

Here's an interesting post on Bob's blog from David Robertson - former 2WS Sydney Group PD

This may be for a station in New Zealand... the music bed sounds like a parody of an Australia song titled "I've Been Everywhere Man" which was a hit in the 1960's for a guy named Lucky Starr ( who by the way is still around and performing at venues.)

The locations in the jingle sound to be more of Maori origin, but I'm not an expert in New Zealand culture.

He also emailed this comment:

I was the Group PD for 2WS-FM and the 50% clear Channel owned stations from 1999 - 2001. I'll check on the origin of the jingles etc. The call sign was 2WS ( as opposed to 2XS). I've had three "tours of duty" with the station and its network, so if you have any questions, please feel to fire them my way. If I can't answer them, I'm sure I can get the information from those who worked with and around me.

Best from Down Under and beyond !

David R

Just before we wander away from the 2WS drift of the thread, these are the late 1980s cuts I have (and I won't go into the equipment somersaults taken to create this seemingly straightforward item!)
