If this is what I'm thinking,Kenny Everett played some of these on Capital.

The Story Lady stuff included "Midas & The Fried Chicken","The Ape who wanted to be John Wayne" and her rendition of "Hickory Dickory Dock".

Also I think there was a sketch asking if the jury had reached a verdict and Mel Blanc said that he wouldn't tell.

Gary Owens may have also contributed to these, but I'm not certain.

The blankity blancs were a series of short comedy pieces that could be used on the radio, obviously featuring Mel Blanc.

While cute, most of them were very dated. For example, there is one that mocks the time that the newspapers in the US were all on strike and you obviously couldn't read the comics. There's a knock on the studio door and a guy says "I'm here to read the comics on the air." the DJ says "Okay" and you hear the guy sit down and rustle through the newspaper. You hear him mumbling about what he's reading and crack up laughing over them, but never hear what the comics were. He then says "Hey - that was fun. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow" and leaves the studio, slamming the door behind him.

Hi, first time posting!

I have heard of Blankity Blancs, because our station HAS that library! An outfit called All-Star Radio threw it in as an "added value" thing when we signed on to their comedy audio/prep service (this was about 9 years ago).

The poster who mentioned the "dated" quality is spot on. In addition to outdated subject matter, there's a lot of stuff using Asian accented characters, etc. that comes off kinda offensive to today's audience.

I admire it for the talent involved--Mel Blanc, Gary Owens, Jesse White I think, Peter Leeds.

Ironically (or not), the material we used out of that library was basically limited to Story Lady--which became pretty popular on our daily "Drive to 5" segment.

Kenny Everitte used them a Lot , I remember the Story Lady was a feature on his early Capital Radio days
