These aren't my own, but I've put them into a montage...

The only other montage I've heard of Energy 103 JAM jingles is what the late David Barras posted some years ago now.

Over the years I have been asked dozens of times - Where did Caroline North and South get the novelty backing for the "Quit foolin' with the antennae, I am trying to listen to my favourite station of 199/259 Radio Caroline"

well, 50 years on, an old friend discovered this! - listen in headphone for best sterereo effect!

Hope you enjoy it, it's my little gift to mark the 50th

WLNG 1988 PAMS Resings. http://jinglemad.com/index.php?p=/discussion/9909/wlng-1988-pams-resings. Sun, 16 Mar 2014 16:20:28 +0000 johnquincy 9909@/index.php?p=/discussions
In 1988 -- long after the original PAMS had gone bust -- Ben Freedman was selling PAMS resings. WLNG's Paul Sydney contracted with Ben to resing a bunch of cuts from PAMS series 26, 27, 29, and 30. A friend of mine, who was doing engineering work for WLNG, managed to run off a dub of the master. This tape has been restored by Ken Deutsch using CEDAR noise reduction, and the jingles are now available on www.JingleSamplers.com.

Unlike most jingle masters, the original had no leader tape but was in pretty raw state with count-offs, false starts and junk between the cuts. (This has been fixed.) Even though Dallas talent was used, the singing is untogether. It doesn't sound like vocal stacking was used, and the vocal-to-track mix is not optimum for some of the cuts. However, many of these cuts still air on WLNG. ]]>

Obituary: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-18686794

Tony Benn introduced the legislation that closed down the pirate radio stations which had sprung up around the coast of Britain. The Marine Broadcasting Offences Act made it almost impossible for the pirate stations such as Radio Caroline to continue transmitting offshore and paved the way for the BBC to launch Radio 1.

But what happens when a completely new in-country start-up producer dips its toes into the water of a completely new market starting up music-based commercial radio for the very first time? Yet where there's no foreign competition permitted and very little "local" competition either?

For those, like me, old enough to remember the 1970s, and those "less old" JMers who like a bit of "jingle heritage" - this is the SuperSounds demo...

Did they get as a much as a single order from even a single UK station? Ever? :-?

Anyway the jingle singers sing "Means Music"--I forget which station. Initially I thought it might be WFIL--and I checked out their version of the "Philadelphia Story"--but nothing there. It's been suggested it was possibly WGAR, but whatever packages I listen to don't have that jingle. Any ideas? Keep in mind the jingle lyric is "Means Music"!

Off-Air Jingle Montages http://jinglemad.com/index.php?p=/discussion/9895/off-air-jingle-montages Sun, 09 Mar 2014 12:54:02 +0000 IainJohnston 9895@/index.php?p=/discussions ...still would "prefer" Download Enabled please Paul et al for anything over 3-5 minutes, for "listen later" when its easier to make time or if the Missus is saying "turn that down a bit!" :-D

Although in a sense a "Jingle montage" comprised of bits of airchecks is a wee bit of a pockle rather than "proper" cuts from packages in our collections, I know that as with the various 2CR items that have been posted recently on JM, many Collectors like me have a drawer-full of "aircheck cassettes" we made in the days when almost every UK station had either unique custom packages (e.g. to Musicians Union and/or IBA rules) or later on at least varied and "imaginatively-lyriced" resings of the cream of UK, Dallas and other syndicated material once conditions were relaxed.

Many such airchecks include examples of long-lost or never-found-in-good-quality cuts, packages or resings that in many cases are "Holy Grails". Well written & crafted jingles that still deserve a good listen in these days of corporate/focus-group-"inspired" blandness and uniformity.

I thoroughly enjoy hearing compilations such as Paul's there, as they're excellent reminders of many items of the "Blimey! - had forgotten about THOSE ones, and STILL have never got a copy of them!" category :)

Without turning JM into a "jingle mausoleum" as someone said, I'd welcome hearing a lot more such compilations, especially if it might encourage JMers to have a rake into dustier corners of their collections to see if they actually have dubs of often-forgotten rareties that others may been hunting for for ages!]]>

For most of the 1960s, FM stations in the USA were primarily running beautiful music formats. They were often automated, and were the forgotten stepchild of broadcasting because not many people were listening. Some FMs simply ran a simulcast of their related AM station, until the FCC ruled that separate programming was required most of the day.

In the late 60s, several FM stations began playing album rock with a deliberate "counter-culture" vibe. The ABC FM group, which consisted of the (then) legal limit of 7 stations, called their format "Love", which briefly used some strange PAMS jingles you are probably familiar with. But in 1969 they decided to do something different.

Allen Shaw was the head of the ABC FM group then. He is a past JAM client and friend, and many years ago sent me some interesting audio recounting the genesis of several jingle packages he's been involved with. Perhaps the most surprising is this little excerpt (posted with his permission)...
